New Member Feature: In Conversation with Grace Kangmeehae Lee, CFP, MEd
1. What inspired you to join the CAGP GTA Chapter, and what are you looking forward to the most?
Before joining, I reached out to several members (a heartfelt thank you to all who took the time to meet with me!). Hearing their passion for the community made my decision an easy one. After joining, I discovered something even better—a true utopia of generosity and collaboration, where everyone is eager to help and support each other.
2. Can you share a bit about your current role and what led you to work in gift planning?
While soul-searching, I recently completed my Master’s in Higher Education at the University of Toronto and discovered the field of advancement. This pivotal moment opened my eyes to the opportunities within the nonprofit sector, particularly in gift planning, where I can blend my seasoned 20+ years of financial expertise as a CFP, 10+ years of leadership in charity governance, fundraising, and mental health advocacy—recognized by the Ontario Volunteer Service Award in 2024—and my passion for philanthropy.
Now exploring a transition from the private sector to the nonprofit world as a gift planner, I’m inspired by the chance to align my professional skills with meaningful charitable work, creating lasting impact through planned giving. While I am particularly drawn to institutions with systems like universities, I am actively exploring opportunities across education, healthcare, the arts, and other sectors where I can contribute to transformative giving and make a lasting impact on the communities they serve.
3. As a new member, what do you hope to gain from being part of this community, and how would you like to contribute?
I hope to continue gaining insights from the CAGP community as I transition into the nonprofit sector. I am deeply grateful to my mentor Samantha Barr and the many members who generously shared their time and guidance—I’ve already received more than enough support and encouragement. In return, I aim to contribute my financial expertise and unique perspective on cultural differences in gift planning to advance inclusive and impactful philanthropy.
